Some time ago we visited a very unique place. That place being Vietnam! I’ll take it from the top…
Day 1…
The first day we landed In Ho Chi Minh City (also called Saigon). We visited Ben Thanh Market. There we saw some Semester at Sea colleagues (SASer’s). They told us that some expensive things are knock offs and that they bought a knock off Gucci purse and a Hermes belt. My neon green shoes were old and ripped so I figured this is a good place for shoes. So… I got some new shoes. They are INCREDIBLE! Then we went around and I got a bracelet that has a mythical creature on it, a black ring, and two necklaces. One being a very big wood one and another having a cross and Virgin Mary. Then we took a nighttime street food tour except this time on Vespas. It was pretty cool eating Fried Spring Rolls and Beef covered in Vegetables wrapped up in Rice Paper. That’s what I had. My parents had Fried Banana and Snail. But I got sick to my stomach…as I am right now writing this. After that we went to the boat and got set for a flight to Hanoi the next morning. Tip: If you’re a foreigner and a kid the locals will be all over you. That includes touching, trying to sell you stuff (sometimes at a higher price than usual), and trying to say hi. Example: At a restaurant a little girl was waving to me and almost came over.

We stayed at The Old Quarter of Hanoi in La Siesta Hotel. We took advantage of the free Wi-Fi and food. While dad went for a look around town we had some food and electronics. Then dad crashed the party and my parents took off to a massage I stayed and watched TV. After that we went outside for a nighttime market event. There we saw Karaoke and lots of convenience stores. I bought a brown, black, yellow, red, and green bracelet. It was a very short and calm day…
Day 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9+10-52 or 3…
Today we went on a limousine bus with lights, mirrors, speakers, outlets, and coolers in the back. We were riding to a Junket Boat. Half the way there we stopped for Oreos and Pepsi. Everybody got back on and waited for another hour to go on a small boat to the Junket boat. We went kayaking and independently went through two caves and met up at a beach were they had a lot of colorful shells and a boat with someone selling snacks out of a rowboat. We went to the boat and found the girl in the rowboat by our balcony still at it. We then played chess and made our own fried spring rolls in a cooking class. At night I went squid fishing for more than an hour but didn’t get lucky. Before squid fishing I had watermelon and what looked to be hashbrowns but was chicken…but the next day we figured out it was squid.
Day 1×4 or 4…
The next morning, I slept through Tai-chi and woke up to go on a rowboat to see stalactites and stalactmites in caves. I then went for a quick last-minute work out before we got off. We then took the limo back which this time had Wi-Fi. After 2 hours of driving we got back to Hanoi where we hung around and had a monster Chicken Burger and Cheese Burger. YUM!!! Then we took a flight and in no-time we were back in Ho Chi Minh City. And then it had gotten late so we immediately went to bed for the early morning.
Day 1+1+1+1+1 or 5…
We got up early to immediately have breakfast and go outside to hop in a giant Ford with our 5th tour guide of Semester at Sea, Mike. He took us on 5 bridges, on a short path, to a restaurant, and past a market all in a 20-mile bike trip. We had some local chicken and watermelon with some unusual plums. We visited a landmark and rode by a billion motorbikes. When we were on the path there was an instant turn, a jump, and a tree all at one point. I went over the bump, almost got hit by a tree, and had to curve in the air all at once. I wasn’t even touching the bike as it was in mid-air and if you were looking at me my face was probably completely white. Out of all my crazy bike trips this was the scariest for my life flashed before me on that stunt. We then went kayaking for an hour and almost got hit by a boat because I could barely see under the straw hat. Then we went home and got ready for the next day.
Life saving fun fact: I’ve been biking for over 6 years and I’ve never had training wheels.
Day 994,000-1,000,000 or 6…
We got up and went to McDonalds for lunch and WiFi to make a plan. We went to the market and shopped our brains out and finished some stuff and went home.
